Experience

President and Executive Producer

Picture This Video, Alexandria, VA (February 1997 - present)

Picture This Video is a sole proprietorship, which specializes in corporate event coverage, training, and video used for marketing.  Delivery is typically for the web, or DVD.  The majority of production work is done by the executive producer, and larger projects will include additional sub-contactors under the direct supervision of the executive producer.  Picture This Video also provides freelance services to broadcast outlets and production companies in the metro DC area.

Duties include:  complete video production, including writing, shooting, audio monitoring, editing, duplication, and hiring of independent contractors.  Maintain billing and purchasing records.  Ensure that projects stay within budget while meeting and exceeding client expectations.

Major freelance clients and duties at each:

WDCW/Channel 50Senior Editor (August 2010 - March 2011 - part time)

Edit packages and studio segments (recorded without control room, and with chromakey and effects) into weekly news magazine show focusing on metro DC newsmakers, pop culture, and features.   Responsible for consistent branding with station’s objectives.

FCPS/Channel 21Segment Producer (2007-present - part time)

Produce packages for bi-weekly news magazine show.   Receive assignments and then conduct research to tell story consistent with school system’s mission and its relationship to the community.   Conduct appropriate interviews, write and edit stories.   Find supplemental material when b-roll is not sufficient to convey message.   Record self voice-overs.   Supervise crew on shoots, and shoot b-roll, as needed.

APS/Channel 70Producer (August 2003-present - part time)

Videotape events at local schools.   Edit events to optimize audio.   Create and/or insert graphics.   Work with school system staff to create training videos to be used internally.   Supervise interns on shoots.   Implement archival and media management systems to be used by freelancers, contractors, and students.   Implement production processes to ensure increased efficiency of production resources.

National Academy of Television Arts and SciencesJudging Coordinator (2006-present - part time)

Periodically recruit peer judges and panel leaders in the television/video industry to judge Emmy entries from other chapters across the United States.   Responsible for getting an average of 700 entries per year judged.   Network with professionals in the industry to evaluate which category(ies) they are most qualified to judge and coordinate with other chapters to ensure judging is complete within deadline, and that ballots and entries are returned properly, and on time.

Maguire-Reeder, Ltd., Alexandria, VA

Office/Production Manager (May 2002 - May 2003)

Maguire-Reeder is a private communications company that specializes in producing video and multi-media products to support government, non-profit, corporate, and associations and their constituencies in developing and distributing messages that are important to them.

Duties include working independently on tight deadlines and with large budgets to produce VNRs, public relations campaigns, training videos, and marketing materials in the form of videos, DVDs, CD-ROMs, and print materials.   Serve as second cameraperson on ENG shoots.   Supervise and hire office personnel and book freelance personnel.   Responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, human resources, simple accounting, and project budget supervision for million-dollar company.   Also responsible for landlord-tenant relations for building.

Fairfax County Public Schools, Annandale, VA

Associate Producer (June 1997 - May 2002)

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) operates a highly acclaimed television department for the 12th largest school district in the U.S., producing over 200 hours of original programming each year, airing on three local cable channels.   As requested by FCPS clients, the department’s productions include PSAs, enrichment programming, electronic field trips, staff development programs, a bi-weekly news program, short-form documentaries, and others.   Approximately 20% of the programming is distributed via satellite to school systems throughout the country.

Duties include:   work independently to produce PSAs, promos, and staff development programs from script-to-screen.   Collaborate with producers and clients to produce televised segments.   Shoot, light and run audio for field shoots.   Write and perform segment editing for full-length programs.   Supervise and book freelance personnel and technicians in studio and field productions.   Assist producers with live and taped studio productions:   directing, camera, audio, CG, or teleprompter operation.

Montgomery Community Television, Rockville, MD

Production Technician (February 1997 - June 1997)

Montgomery Community Television is a local station featuring a nightly live newscast covering Montgomery County news events.   It also provides coverage of county meetings, and taped studio productions.

Duties include: Operate teleprompter or CG for nightly newscast.   Serve as assistant director by tracking roll-in times and cuing tape times for live-to-tape productions.   Run camera and CG for County Council meetings.

Jones Communications, Alexandria, VA

Production Assistant, Local Origination Department
(June 1997 - December 1999 and August 1994 - March 1995)

Jones Communications’ Channel 10 provides local programming to Alexandria residents through public access and the local origination staff.   The local origination department produces studio shows with city government clients, as well as provides live and taped coverage of local events using a mobile production van and multiple cameras.

Duties include: operation of camera, CG, or audio for taped studio productions, city meetings, and live event coverage of high school football, basketball, and other sports.   Direct five-hour live telethon broadcast with multiple locations and cameras.   Direct School Board and City Council meeting broadcasts.   Perform manual playback operations and master control duties.   Assist with set construction and lighting for studio productions.

Local Origination Coordinator

(March 1995 - December 1996)

Duties include: maintain accounts receivable and accounts payable records for department.   Hire freelance personnel to maintain 20-person roster; create and maintain crew assignment schedules to meet production needs.   Ensure city franchise requirements are met, regarding programming.   Perform quality control checks on programs submitted from outside producers for consideration of airing.   Create, oversee, and distribute programming schedule for 24-hour channel.
